According to what she told Desmond, David was Libby's husband. Libby also said that he succumbed to an unknown illness and died. She added that David was an avid boating fan, and that he named his yacht, Elizabeth, after her.

He wanted to sail to the Mediterranean, according to Libby, but died of an unspecified illness just a month before Libby met Desmond.
