- Kyle played Agent Cooper in the cult series Twin Peaks.
- He is also known for playing the lead role in David Lynch's movies Dune and Blue Velvet.
- Kyle has a main part in the drama series Desperate Housewives, playing Orson Hodge.
- He played the role of Dr. Trey McDougall for seasons 3 and 4 of HBO's Sex and the City. Trey McDougall was Charlotte York's first husband on the show; Evan Handler, who portrayed Dave on Lost, played Charlotte's second husband, Harry Goldenblatt.
