People on the freighter dying

  • The Island is killing the boaties.
  • The Island distorts the world around it to keep outsiders away. It defends itself planting madness into the minds of those who approach or leave it.
  • The Island is drawing the people on the boat to it, which is why despite warnings they are still attempting to set off in small boats to reach it - at least four people have tried so far.
  • It's "the sickness" causing the cabin fever.
  • Something is causing them to have the same time jumping experiences that Desmond and Minkowsi have/had.

The "innocent people" among the Freighter's crew

  • The innocent people are those who will never kill others.
  • Whether there are innocent people on board or not actually doesn't interest Ben, because everyone that poses a threat to the island is effectively guilty to him. Ben is just saying this to con Michael into thinking that Ben is a good man.

Miles knowing Michael lied about his name

  • Miles simply noticed that Michael didn't react immediately when he was called by his "new" name.
  • Miles is using a 'cold reading' technique. He deliberately sat where he could speak to crew members as they boarded in order to find out information. He figures that a new crew member getting a job as general deckhand on a merchant ship has a high chance of using a fake name. He did not know that Michael was using a false name until Michael's reaction confirmed this.
  • Miles is some sort of psychic and can look into people's minds.
