Fanon Alert!
This article contains tribute art, spin-off fiction, theories, reference and community material created by fans inspired by the show.
It is by definition non-canon, but generally distinct from intentionally fake hoaxes or humorous fan parody material.

A theory related to the Garden of Eden theory, the Noah's Ark Theory posits that the Hanso Foundation already has the Valenzetti Equation and is using the island as a sort of Ark to protect a select group of individuals, fauna and flora from the impending apocalypse.

This theory should be read in support of, and as complementary to, the Doomsday Weapon Facade, elaborating further on the "faith" and "apocalyptic" aspect of the theory. The current builders (Hanso Foundation) of the Ark are either aware of the date of the "Great Flood" (Doomsday) and thus building the new Ark, or they intend, in fact, to engender the Doomsday by using the electromagnetic weapon. It is possible that the island itself was also the first Noah's Ark where a globally representative spectrum of people, plants and animals were gathered. A New Noah's Ark would explain the polar bears, boars and horses. The original builders of the Ark, Noah and his companions, may represent an ancient civilization out of which, inter alia, the statue of the four-toed foot may have survived. The Bible accounts Noah and his contemporaries having very long lives.

Methusela, for example, was a contemprary of Noah. He lived 969 years, the longest recorded lifespan. The name Methusela means, “When he dies, it shall be sent,” a reference to the flood destroying humanity - a prediction, by God no less, to the exact year that humanity would be destroyed (save the Ark). The Valenzetti Equation parallels this.

It is also worth noting that the story of the Ark is excessively ancient and nearly universal, occurring in various cultures on each continent. The Sumerian (the most ancient known civilization in the real world) story of Gilgamesh (the oldest literary work in history) represents the first account of the story of the Ark and the Great Flood.

The Ancients with the four toes may be the original builders of the Ark and perhaps Alvar Hanso's family are, in fact, one of the Ancients or their descendants. The final episodes of Lost may reveal Hanso, his family members or other characters of the show actually having only four toes! It is also clear that the magnetism on the island invokes latent psychic skills in humans, making them more attuned to all things of the spirit.

Pros

  • An anagram for HANSO is NOAH(s)
  • There is a heavy emphasis on Good People from all of The Others.
    • Goodwin tells Ana Lucia when she inquires that the first day the Others took "the strongest and most athletic" of the survivors. This would suffice to say that the Others want to insure that the best and the brightest survive the Big Comedown.
    • In this sense, the Others would build a society based on Utopian Social Engineering principles, which is one of the stated goals of the DHARMA Initiative.
  • The Hanso Foundation is known to be interested in life-extension.

Cons

  • There is a very very small representation of animal life on the island for this to be preparing to salvage everything like the Ark - a world with Polar bears, boars and horses as the only mammals?
    • Possibly animal gathering has only just begun
    • Or animal gathering was initiated long ago, but failed to materialize. This would explain why Sawyer was in an empty bear cage, while the bears clearly had already escaped.
  • The Valenzetti Equation has not been solved, as remarked by Mittelwerk in the Sri Lanka Video.
