Robert was a member of Danielle Rousseau's science expedition that became shipwrecked on the Island. Robert was Danielle's "love" who gave her the music box for their anniversary. According to Danielle, he came down with the Sickness. She removed the firing pin from his gun in secret, and then confronted him with a gun, at which point she shot him dead. It is implied that she killed the other members of the expedition around the same time.

Danielle only mentions Robert in the episode "Solitary". While Sayid is holding Danielle at gunpoint and he realizes his gun does not work, she says, "The firing pin has been removed. Robert didn't notice it was missing either, when I shot him."
