The "ring of torches" is a special effect. They are in fact greatly outnumbered and outgunned, but they have set up a ring of torches in this place which can all be lit simultaneously by one person, in order to give the impression of numerical strength.
- This theory may be disproven as the camera scans round the torches and we can briefly see silhouettes of The Others holding them.
- The scene with the Torches is again seen during a flashback in "Three Minutes".
The large black rock seemed out of place. Was it a visual clue to something? Was it a marker for 'The Line', or perhaps a marker for a Cerberus vent?
