Wheelchair

Locke was in a wheelchair for four years prior to the crash of Flight 815. He was pushed out a window by his father ("The Man from Tallahassee"), paralyzing him from the waist down as seen several times, notably in "Walkabout". Following the crash, Locke's paralysis is miraculously healed and he again has full use of his legs. Several other wheelchairs have also been depicted as being used by other characters.

Pre-Crash
After falling from eight stories, Locke was upset to hear that he would have to use a wheelchair. ("The Man from Tallahassee") While undergoing physical therapy at the hospital, Locke was met by Abaddon, posing as an orderly, who told him to take a walkabout. ("Cabin Fever") Shortly before the crash, Locke was denied entry to a Walkabout Tour of Australia by a Travel Agent of the Melbourne Walkabout Tours. As the agent left the room, Locke exclaimed "Don't ever tell me what I can't do! Ever!" ("Walkabout")
Post-Crash
- Locke is often sensitive about the wheelchair. He looks at it thoughtfully while the fuselage burns at the end of "Walkabout". Later, following the injury he incurred in "Lockdown", Kate mentions that they have a wheelchair pulled from the wreckage, unaware that the wheelchair was Locke's to begin with. He quickly refuses, opting to use crutches instead.
- Earlier in "Walkabout", another survivor is seen using the wheelchair to transport firewood into the fuselage.
- In "The Man from Tallahassee" Ben is wheeled around the Barracks in a wheelchair. He and Locke make several comparisons about how Ben is now the one in a wheelchair and Locke is not.
Visions
- In episode "Deus Ex Machina", Locke has a dream of Boone bloodied, and suddenly sees himself in a wheelchair. He panics and exclaims, "No, no, please... Don't take it back." He suddenly wakes up, and the first thing he does is check his legs, relieved that that was a dream.
- In episode "?", Locke has a dream in which he appears as Eko (but retains his limp), and is instructed to climb to the top of the cliff over the Beechcraft. When he gets to the top, he is surprised by an image of Yemi sitting in his wheelchair, and falls off the cliff. This causes him to wake with a start.
- In the episode "Further Instructions", Locke has a vision in which he is again paralyzed, and Boone instructs him to ride in the wheelchair again.

Wheelchairs have also been depicted in scenes with other characters.
- Michael is wheelchair bound for a time after he is hit by a car. A scene is shown of him being wheeled around by his former wife, Susan. ("Special").
- Kate visits a hospital ("Born to Run") and Jack works in a hospital, both places where wheelchairs can be frequently seen.
- Rose sees a wheelchair and many crutches in Isaac of Uluru's house. ("S.O.S.")
- Ben is in a wheelchair at the Barracks ("The Man from Tallahassee")
- Diane Janssen meets Kate during her trial in a wheelchair. ("Eggtown")
